Dana and Kevin
Kevin and Dana had known each other professionally for many years. Both of them are band directors and would frequently see each other at various clinics. In 2019, she had the opportunity to invite Kevin to present at the State Convention that she is the President of. At first, she didn’t want to invite him, however, her advisors talked her into it. But when the Pandemic hit, it forced Dana and Kevin to meet about his presentation over Zoom. During one Zoom call, Kevin mentioned he had heard that she likes a good bottle of wine and suggested that they have a Zoom Happy Hour!
“On July 2, 2020, we had our first Zoom Happy Hour…which led to another one the following week…which then turned into Zoom dinner dates (we would pick a recipe and cook it together over zoom)…which led to coffee every morning and a goodnight call every night! Finally, in October, he flew to Houston for our first in-person date… and the rest is history! We were engaged by July 2021. So, COVID, ZOOM, and MUSIC brought us together!”
Kevin proposed to Dana on July 7, 2021, in Cozumel, Mexico. Dana was totally surprised!
“We had scheduled a dinner on the beach. As we walked around the corner, I saw a pathway of rose petals that led to a big heart of rose petals with the words ‘Will You Marry Me in rose petals in the sand. The sun was setting, he got down on one knee and proposed! I had no idea! I was thinking we would get engaged the following October on our 1st date anniversary. It was completely romantic…sun setting, beachside table for two, candles, champagne, lobster/steak! It was magical!”
The Grand Galvez hotel and venue had always been special to both of them. Dana used to vacation there with her Mom, and Kevin used to go there with his family. They not only love the building of The Grand Galvez itself, they appreciate the way the staff of The Grand Galvez made them feel.
“It is a glorious, historic hotel that has been renovated to look the way it used to look in 1911, with some very amazing updates. It brings us back to the time of “Old Hollywood”! In addition, the staff and administration made us feel as if we were the only people staying there and that our event was the ‘event of the evening’. They were all amazing!”
Special Wedding Day Memories at The Grand Galvez
When Dana first saw Kevin on their wedding day, she said, “He took my breath away…..I have never been happier!”Their favorite thing about their wedding reception was the fact that they decided not to have a sit-down dinner.
“We served heavy hors d’oeuvres and had a Shrimp station, a Mac and Cheese station, and a Banana Foster station plus dessert table. We did not assign seating, so all of our guests roamed around and mingled. It was wonderful!”

Advice from the Newlyweds
“Let other people run the weekend of the wedding. Be it a wedding planner or in my case, my very dear friends. They handled all the logistics of the day while at the same time making sure Kevin and I were not having to think or worry about anything. And remember, no matter what…take time on the day to stop, breathe, and take it all in. It goes by so fast and you want to experience everything!”
