Greek Orthodox Church Wedding
Penny & Jimmy met 5 years ago, shortly after Penny had moved to Houston. They were both dancing for the annual Greek Festival of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
A Big Greek Proposal
“Jimmy and I traveled to Greece with his family a year before our wedding. While there, he drove me up a mountain in the family village and proposed towards the top. Jimmy’s twin sister, Alexis, and her fiance, Matt also came along and helped to stage the entire proposal.
I was completely surprised, and could not understand why we needed to go up the mountain so quickly after getting home from the beach.”
A Big Greek Wedding
St. Basil The Great Greek Orthodox Church, located on the west side of Houston, is one of the largest Greek Orthodox churches in America. Penny and Jimmy exchanged their wedding vows in this magnificent sanctuary. It was a stunning setting for the wedding photographer to capture the moments of their wedding ceremony.
When the calm couple saw one another for the first time on their big day, they described the feeling as if they had ‘officially crossed a finish line’.
“We were so relieved to know that the planning was over, our bridal party was ready ahead of schedule, and our loved ones finally arrived. Beyond our first look at each other, we both knew the party could start! It was a sense of pure excitement and relief to know that we had reached our goal!”
A Big Greek Reception
“If anyone knows Greeks, they also know they need the biggest dance floor they can find! We were so lucky to find Ashton Gardens West. Every other venue seemed unprepared to handle a “Big Fat Greek” family. Their dance floor accommodated our 200 guests perfectly and the dancing never stopped! It was also a reasonably affordable venue.
Our most emotional moment was simply seeing all of our friends and family. The majority of our guests had to travel from all over the United States, and it felt like a massive family reunion! We love to dance! Seeing so many different age groups on our dance floor made it all the more enjoyable for us. Nothing brings our families together like music does. For the entirety of our engagement, we kept discussing our play list and how much we would look forward to getting on our dance floor.”
The Important Details:
Gown: La Reve Bridal Boutique, Sugar Land – Essence of Australia
Cake: The Sweet Boutique, Sugar Land
Flowers: Floral Events, Houston (By the way, 90% of our flowers were completely fake and they looked SO good!)
Honeymoon destination: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
“Don’t overdo it! We went into our planning knowing that we wanted to cut out all unnecessary parts of wedding planning. (bouquet toss, garter toss, expensive favors) We wanted to make sure money was spent where it mattered most. Remember that family and friends come first, and while it is your special day, it would be nothing without the people who supported you all the way to the altar. Planning will be stressful no matter what, but keep the goal of fun in mind!”
