Dreams do come true at Briscoe Manor! This outstanding wedding venue in the Greater Houston area is the perfect spot for a magical day and wedding photographers love it for a reason! The setting among live oak and pecan trees in tranquil Fort Bend County, under the stars overlooking a private lake, provide an excellent background for wedding day photos. Inspiring chapel, enchanting outdoor courtyard, grand ballroom, and lovely lakeside grounds ~ it’s the ideal place for a Texas wedding, and it’s no surprise that Briscoe Manor won the Bride’s Choice Award 2011 as well as The Knot’s Best of Weddings 2011!
Briscoe Manor is the charming location where Kara and Jimmy exchanged their wedding vows.
The journey a couple takes as they meet, fall in love, become engaged, and plan their wedding day can be dramatic and full of challenges, yet it can turn out even better than expected!
The story of Kara and Jimmy getting to Briscoe Manor for their incredible day is exactly that kind of journey! You have got to read this in the bride’s own words ~ you’ll be encouraged if you are facing challenges during your planning process!
“One of the first things that Jimmy, like most people, learned about me is that I’m a LSU and a HUGE fan! While we were dating, we made several trips to Baton Rouge to go to football games and visit my sister who was living there. During those trips, he could tell how much I enjoy being there and how important it is to me. On the day he proposed, he told me that we were going to visit my sister (it was her birthday so I made no arguments and was not suspicious when my whole family came along). His parents were also there but they are in the area often because of events their church has with churches in Baton Rouge. He told me that we were going to stop at LSU to show his mom Mike the Tiger. We parked the car and walked through the campus down to the tiger cage and stadium. On our way, I could hear the LSU marching band playing. It was a beautiful March afternoon, so I thought that it was very nice for them to be practicing outside. When we got to the Tiger cage, they were playing LSU songs in an open area right in front. They finished their song and began playing a song that is played at every football game, “Hey Baby” (I want to know if you’d be my girl). When the song came on I felt him hold my hand tighter. He walked me a little closer to the band and got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife! Of course, I said yes!
We were engaged for 8 months and got married on November 7th. Our engagement was busy like most engagements are. We had everything planned out and paid for 2 months in advance. About a week later, Hurricane Ike came along and ruined all of our plans by destroying our venue (followed by their bankruptcy) and taking our money with it! 5 weeks before the big day, everything had to be re-planned and repaid for. We wanted to keep the same date because invitations had been sent out and our honeymoon dates were already set. Luckily, November 7 was one of only two dates that Briscoe Manor had available for the rest of the year! We went on the next business day and booked it. Going through this made our day very special because not only were we beginning our life together but we felt like we had overcome quite an obstacle to get there and it brought us closer.
Our wedding was attended by 200 people. My dress was strapless, ivory slight mermaid cut with a delicate lace overlay and had a chapel length train. Cakes by Gina made the bride’s and groom’s cake. They did a beautiful job. A couple of days after the wedding, we left for our honeymoon at the Nassau, Bahamas Sandals Resort.”
